The Corries ~ Robbie Burns/ Parcel O' Rogues!

This one was written in 1791 and refers back to the Scottish Act Of Union but I'll let you look up that for yourselves and of those involved. Something that won't go away. The Corries were as important to Scotland as any academic, historian, politician or other and the history of the group is well worth reading up on. Ronnie Browne's tribute to Roy Williamson. (1936 - 1990) The Corries were probably Scotland's most favourite folk group and considered as important to her heritage any of its great writers or scientists. Bold claim! I know. The Corries- My Dear only Love {Rare Recording}

"The Great Montrose" they called him and I first came across this I don't know when. James Graham, the 1st Marquess of Montrose is remembered today as the brilliant Scottish General in the War of the Three Kingdoms. The title should read, "My Dear and Only Love" but I'll let the Corries tell the story. They say General Montgomery used a verse from this to rally his troops before the Normandy Landings. (Wikipedia). Montrose died as he wrote. (1612 - 1650)

Roy Williamson of the Corries wrote "Flower of Scotland". The other member above is Ronnie Browne.

I watched a documentary on Robbie Burns about a week back and very interesting as well. Robbie was very much an anti-establishment figure and a bit wild as they'd say around here. He died very young and according to wikipedia after a tooth extraction though with the added info from the documentary of being advised by his doctor to bathe in a river or such, so as to bring his temperature down. I'm sure it would! Today they'd have him on "tablets". Robbie was a great poet though and I believe he married the words to the music rather than the other way around. Anyway that's what I took from the program! I picked a song from the Scottish folk group the Corries because I was given a collection of them many years ago by a Scottish gentleman whose sympathies were not of a mind to some of Robbie's views. The songs are fine though, please enjoy. As to a parcel of rogues, sure we could go pound for pound! I believe Willie G. Hodgins who is chairman of The Meath Writers' Circle is also involved in the Burns' Society and with a few other members of the group "celebrated" the "night" up in Dublin  With thanks to youtube and the person who posted!
