TEARS IN RAIN | Why is it so special?

Vangelis~ The Blade Runner.

The Greek composer Vangelis died on Tuesday the 17th of May and the credits to his name are just too numerous to mention. Stunning compositions that are unforgettable. I've loaded the end scene from the Blade Runner before and could have picked something else that he composed the music for; and maybe I will, but another chance to indulge myself. This was loaded by Canadalorian and with thanks. Go to youtube to read the comments on the above.

Vangelis: Born 29th of March 1943
                 Died 17th of May 2022

Theo Dorgan reads "Ithaca"

Theo Dorgan reads 'Ithaca'

What set me after this reading was a poem sent in for this year's magazine. There are a number of readings of 'Ithaca' out there but I settled for Theo Dorgan's. A favourite poem of Jackie Kennedy and one that was read at her funeral, give a listen and maybe buy a copy of the magazine for another take if we make it there ourselves. From the UCD Special Library Collections and with thanks. Poem written by Constantine Cavafy: April 29th 1863 - April 29th 1933. Check him out!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Bridie Halton.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Bridie Halton.

*The sad news of the passing of one of our long-time members on Friday was a shock to everyone. Bridie Halton was a member of our group for many years and will be remembered for her contributions and fund raising for the group. Her compilation of the poems of her cousin Felix 'Among The Breffni Hills' was a major undertaking, as many of them were not written down and the fundraising event for the launch of the book in the Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim in December 2014 was a night to be remembered and a brilliant success with all kinds of music and entertainment laid on. She also had a talent for recitations and their performance from memory. She will be missed. Her funeral takes place today in St Joseph's Church, Loughduff in County Cavan at 3pm. May she rest in peace.

 The Meath Writers' Circle/Meeting!

The next meeting of the group will be in Navan Library on Thursday the 5th of May at 7pm. All are welcome. Bring a poem or piece of prose or short story or just drop in for a chat. Apart from one meeting it's been almost two and a half years now since our last get together although we've managed to keep the magazine on track, difficult and all as that was. If you haven't sent in something for this year's issue please do so asap. Time gets short. Hope to see you on Thursday.
