Sixty years now since the above was recorded and we have learned nothing better than to hold consultative forums on how to become better engaged. I remember watching 'Anzio' a long time ago, starring Peter Falk and Robert Mitchum and I think one of them said to the other something along the lines of the thing about war is that men like killing each other and there lies the nub of the problem. We even get a good deal of our entertainment from violence. Not sure 'good deal' are the terms you'd employ. I could be wrong about that film and it might have been another one and I'm too lazy to chase it down this fine morning but any sane person who has ever been 'there' doesn't want to go back. Don't know much about ballistics but I wonder how a bullet fired from behind can blow the back of his head off. Bob Dylan's recording leaves a fair old record if you'll pardon the pun. Today is Bob Dylan's 80th birthday and something suitable to mark the occasion left a lot of options open, given the Dylan catalogue of songs. But I went for the one above because he was brave enough to write it and it's one of those conspiracies that won't go away. If you look at the singer songwriters that came up through the sixties and the plastic pop culture of today you have to wonder what's happened to this generation. I heard an old style journalist being interviewed on local radio and he described them as a generation that's bred to compliance. Anyway what do you think?

I've been meaning to put up a version of this one for a while and the trouble is just about everyone has recorded it, so difficult choice! Settle for Emmy Lou. Nice to see they gave him the Nobel Prize and should have given it to Leonard as well and Paul Simon is still out there somewhere. Must look up "A Hard Rain", weather's getting strange.
