The next meeting of our writing group takes place this Thursday night coming the 4th of September in Trim Library at 6.15 pm and all are welcome to attend. So whatever your interest in the writing sphere we'd love to see you there. Hoping to get something together for the end of the year. If you're passing why not drop in.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ December 2024!

The next meeting of our group takes place is on this Thursday night coming, the 5th of December at 6.15 pm in Trim Library. More of a Christmas or social get-together than a writing or poetry event but anything goes. Bring a poem or story or a song or whatever takes your interest and you'll be more than welcome. Light refreshments served and a chance to catch up on all the news with perhaps a bit of feedback on our recent book. All welcome. Hope to see you there. FM.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Calendar Lunch 2024!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Calendar Launch 2024!

Just a word of thanks for everyone who turned out for what was the very successful launch of our 2024 calendar in Crocketts Bar of Bective. Also to thank the staff who accommodated us at short notice. It was an event tinged with sadness due to the passing away of our long time chairman Willie G. Hodgins who held the position since 2012. May he rest in peace.

For those who've contributed to the above, a get-together has been arranged for this Wednesday night coming (6th December) in Crocketts Bar of Bective at 7pm, with 'Finger Food' served at 8 pm. I would like to thank all who have assisted for what was in many ways  a last minute decision or venture to get something out for the year. A number of copies will be issued to all involved and we'll play it from there! Anyone who'd like to drop in is more than welcome.

*The Thursday night meeting in Navan Library will not take place.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ October Meeting 2023!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ October Meeting 2023!

The next meeting of the writers' group is on this Thursday night coming at 7 pm in Navan Library and all are welcome to attend. Bring a poem or a story or just drop in for a while for the conversation. Hoping to have a calendar out for Christmas and places are very limited as there are only twelve months in the year, so it will be interesting as to how it turns out, if we make it! Many of our long time members are gone due to illness or other reasons but our group has been around for over thirty years so hopefully there's another few. All the best and see you on the night.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ September Meeting!

The next meting of the group is on this Thursday night coming at 7 pm in Navan Library and all are welcome to attend. Bring your poem or story or just drop in for while and who knows? The group has been in existence now for over thirty years and while many of our members have come and gone; hopefully new writers will see it last another decade or so. The Covid years were a trial but even then we managed to get out a magazine or two and we couldn't have done that without the assistance of others who contributed in many ways. Hope to see you on the night.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ August Meeting 2023!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ August Meeting 2023!

The next meeting of the above group is on this Thursday night coming (3rd) at 7pm in Navan Library. All are welcome and there is no set theme, so whatever you want to read is fine. If you are passing or have any interest in poetry or short stories, or just want to listen and have a little time on your hands, then why not drop in for a while. Hope to see you there.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ July Meeting 2023!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ July Meeting 2023!

The next meeting of the above group is on this Thursday night coming  in Navan Library at 7 pm and hope to see you there. Now in existence for over thirty years it would be nice to see it continue well into the future and new members would be especially welcome. Anything you wish to read or contribute is fine, whether it is your own piece or something by another poet or writer or even songwriter. Over the years we've had one or two really good singers in the group so feel free. If you're passing or free on the night do drop in.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ June Meeting!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ June Meeting!

The next meeting of the group will be on Thursday the 1st of June at 7 pm in Navan Library. No theme or suggestions as I was not at the last meeting so whatever you bring will be fine. Hope to see you there and all are welcome so why not drop in if you happen to be passing. Read something of your own or a favourite from schooldays or just relax from the everyday, or even a song perhaps. See you on the night.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ March 2023!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ March 2023.

Careless of me to let it slip but a timely reminder (just) of tonight's meeting in Navan Library at 7 pm where all are welcome.  The prompt for tonight was the life of St. Brigid but anything you want to read will be appreciated. Hope to see you there!

The Meath Writers' Circle/ February Meeting 2023 (2)

The Meath Writers' Circle/February Meeting 2023 (2)

Last Thursday night's meeting of the group was something of a round-up with regard to past events and meetings and magazine sales. For a decade now we've managed to bring out books and magazines every year but sadly due to present circumstances this will no longer be possible as our best sales people are no longer with us due to illness or other difficulties and many have passed on. The Covid years were especially a problem as there were no meetings for about two years though we managed to hang on. Also as much of the selling of the magazine was done person to person the cashless era has done us no favours. The group though carries on and the next meeting is on Thursday the 7th of March in Navan Library. Hope to see you there.

The Meath Writers' Circle/Meeting February 2023!

The next meeting of the group is on this Thursday night coming at 7 pm in Navan Library. Over the past decade and especially last year we've lost many of the core members of our group who have passed on or are no longer able to attend meetings and just to thank all those who have contributed in any way to our success with regard to book or magazine sales or other contributions. Appreciated. Where we go from here time will tell. Hope to see you there.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Magazine Launch 2022!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ Magazine Launch 2022!

The launch of our eight annual magazine took place in Navan Library last night with Tom French doing the honours and both children and contributors getting to read their poem or story. A good crowd turned for what was a very lively event and we'd like to thank them all for coming and also a big thank you to the library staff for their hospitality and for accommodating the event. Others read as well and the poetry of Thomas Hardy was singled out for its excellence by Tom French in his opening introduction. But there are very many fine poems and articles here and too many to mention. For only €8 the magazine is a gift. Seventy six pages of art and illustrations with biographical notes at the back and a children's section as well. So if you have relations at home or abroad, the perfect Christmas present. Ask any member of the group and the magazine is available at the moment in the Heritage Centre in Trim.

The next meeting of the group is on Thursday next at 7 pm in Navan Library. All are welcome to attend. Just bring a story or poem of your choice and if you can find the lyrics of a song you enjoy with a little backstory, all the better. Should be fun. Hope to see you there.

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ August Meeting!

The Meath Writers' Circle ~ August Meeting!

Numbers creeping back up slightly with seven in attendance but nowhere near where we used to be. An interesting theme suggested for the next meeting, as well as your own material of course, is to read something written by a popular artist from the musical sphere and the back story that goes with that should be interesting given that everyone has different tastes. When we were in the Trim Castle I can remember someone reading a piece by Nick Cave (The Mercy Seat) so it will be interesting to see what comes up!
