The Broad Majestic Shannon ~ Written by Shane MacGowan.
Just heard the news of the passing of Shane MacGowan who was one of Ireland's finest poets and songwriters. The above is a tribute by Liam Clancy and it was loaded by Anna Rodgers way back in 2008 and with thanks. Shane was born on Christmas Day 1957 and died today Thursday the 30th of November 2023. He will be missed. To youtube for the comments and further information.
Picked this up on late night radio a long time ago and as she says herself on another recording, 'a poem by Natalie Merchant'. To youtube for the comments on many sites and perhaps it's been best described as a masterpiece. Born in New York on October the 26th 1963 she has some serious back catalogue and could be described as being both politically active and charitable to say the least but then America seems to come up with these girls again and again and it's a long way back to the Carters and many others. I will leave you to enjoy whether you agree or not. From the Natalie Merchant site and with thanks.

Richard Burton reads 'Adlestrop' by Edward Thomas (1878 ~ 1917)
On of the late Tommy Murray's favourite poems and a quick load as my internet has been out for the past five days. This poem was written in 1914 before the 'Great War' or as it is referred to, 'The war to end all wars' and we know where that went. His friendship with Robert Frost and Frost's poem 'The Road Not Taken' has its own interesting back story but I'll leave that for you poetry buffs to read up on. Time conspires. Loaded by 'metrisch' and with thanks. To Youtube for the comments. The service provided by Youtube and the old 'Share' button and the people who load their personal selections are as important as any university and contributes more or at least as much to society as any of our great schools.
A poet who came up for discussion at the last meeting of the An Tobar poetry group was Michael Hartnett and I've been meaning to look up some of his poetry ever since. Settled on the above and there are a number of videos of this one out there. Loaded by jdtvideo and performed by Paul Dunworth and Micháel Rowsome, (and with song)it was filmed during 'Eigse Michael Hartnett 2014' so with thanks to all. Good is good as they say and he was rated one of Ireland's finest poets. To Wikipedia for a lot more information on his background.
A Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in England; Kris Kristofferson here penned one of the finest songs about the hopelessness and decadence of the society that we are all part of and it is one fine piece of poetry as well. I've seen him described as one of America's finest singer - songwriters, if not the finest and you can argue who is or isn't but he represents a hard edged but beautiful part of contemporary folk that few can match. He was born in Brownsville Texas on June 22nd 1936 and is one of the last of those outlaws. Loaded by the above and with thanks and for all the songs.
