Seamus Heaney ~ 'Whatever You Say, Say Nothing'

A day or two late here but something by Seamus Heaney who needs no introduction whatsoever. Met him once on Tara when the protests about the M3 motorway were taking place and there was some collection of Irish literary figures and historians there that day. The road went through anyway and the media went back to admiring itself. The poem above is a reflection on the 'troubles' and very well written. Colum Sands of the Sands family has a song of the same title and well worth a listen and I borrowed the title for a poem of my own but I'd go for the aforementioned. Seamus Heaney was born on April 13th 1939 and died on August 30th 2013. So ten years ago to this day. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995.This here is a wonderful video by 'Discover Ireland' where some of his poems are read by Liam Neeson, who has the perfect voice for it. I got a photograph of him and a number of other literary figures at an event on Tara during the protests about the motorway coming through. It came anyway. I got a photograph of him one Sunday up on Tara when it used to attract large crowds. That is before the 'officials' took over and moved the event into the Church where it attracted almost nobody. Working on the principle of if it works break it or something like that. Maybe it's a success today I don't know, haven't been back in a while. The above was loaded by 'calumisdead' and with thanks. Will go back into the Blog to find the photo but it's not on this computer or I would load it above. Out there on Google images somewhere. Give it a look.

The Blog date for the Tara event was Sunday, August 29th 2010. Have a look, you won't believe the poets and writers who showed up and performed for nothing and the quality of the photos taken on an old Kodak are wish you were there.
