Irish Culture Night ~ 2026.

 Irish Culture Night ~ 2026.

Friday night just gone past was the night selected to represent an expression of our culture and Dr. Michael Farry on his talk of 'History into Poetry' in Trim library, where he read from a selection of his poems on the war of independence, 'Troubles' was a reading that featured some of this county's participants in that conflict and often with unfortunate consequence. A little humour there as well but the practise of 'Bobbing'  and his poem on the subject, or incidence of that nature, is something that gets very little mention in the poems of the period and the more romantic nature is the preferred route. Managed to catch some of Ken Loach's film, The Wind That Shakes The Barley' over the weekend and the practice, if that's what you want to call it, is a scene that does no credit to any individual that was ever involved, whatever side they were on. But seems to follow most wars or is part of. Anyway time runs out and if you haven't purchased a copy of Michael's poetry book on the period, then Revival Books is a must, as is a visit to his website pages. Click to the right.
