An Tobar Poetry Reading/July 2022!
James McConnell and Olivia Barnes were the generous hosts for the July meeting of the An Tobar Group, with the event being held the in the outdoor setting of their beautiful gardens. The theme for the afternoon was 'Nature' or your relationship in some way as to how it impacted on your life. Jim Owens was the MC for the afternoon with poems by writers such as Francis Ledwidge and Alexander Pope featuring a number of times. Reginald Arkell's poem 'Journey's End' was read by James as a tribute to Dermot O' Neill the Irish broadcaster and gardener who passed away on Friday the 1st of July and there were a number of poems in the same vein as to our surroundings. John D. Sheridan got a mention a number of times and many people read their own compositions. Also Oscar Wilde and William Wordsworth were not forgotten with Sean Reilly's reading of Max Ehrmann's 'A Prayer' something to be remembered. There were over twenty five readings in all and a number of foreign guests on what turned out a very pleasant afternoon. All rounded off by refreshments for those who came. The next meeting of the group is in September.
