A limerick is a light humorous or nonsensical verse of five lines popularized by Edward Lear (1812-88) in his Book of Nonsense (1840) with a rhyming scheme of aabba, and I have the Concise English Dictionary and The American Heritage Dictionary to thank for the above information.
