Red Headed Writing ~Edited by Adam Van Winkle.

Red Headed Writing ~ Edited by Adam Van Winkle.

An Anthology of 'Grit Lit' incited by the music and lyrics of Willie Nelson and part of a series inspired or influenced by the writings of some of America's great folk and musical heroes. Writings that focus on the gritty realism of the working class and draw on the reflections of those for whom that soundtrack is a backdrop to lives where the heroic is simply survival. Some lovely writing here but the house on the hill is on other avenues and a dream of childhood that's not coming true. Read and read again and a particular favourite was Dayna Copeland's 'Once In A Lifetime' but there were others ....

Published by Cowboy Jamboree Press it is available on Amazon at $13.99. Visit their site to see books available and for submission requirements. Link below.

"Sonnet 18 - Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?" by William Shakesp...

SpokenVerse Reading!

Another one for summer. I checked through many readings of this and believe the above one is the best. Brilliant writing. But who was he? Takes me back to something I mentioned before about Elizabeth Hickey (1917 - 1999) who lived in Skryne Castle, overlooking Tara in County Meath and the case she made for William Nugent who died in 1565. The title of her book is The Green Cockatrice, which was published in 1978. One for the history buffs. Plenty of information on other sites as well. With thanks to SpokenVerse who loaded. Appreciated.

Bagatelle - Summer in Dublin!

Bagatelle ~ Summer in Dublin!

Hard to believe this one goes all the way back to May 1980 and if I remember right it was one fine summer. Written by Liam Reilly who passed away in 2021 aged only 65. It has millions of hits on Youtube and a visit over there to read the many comments will enlighten you more than anything I've got to say. So from May 2024 all the way back to May 1980 - enjoy. An Apology for Our Survival ~ Michael Farry.

An Apology for Our Survival ~ Michael Farry.

Michael Farry is an historian and poet from Coolaney in County Sligo though long settled here in County Meath.  A teacher by profession though now retired he holds a PhD from Trinity College for his thesis on the civil war in his native county. The winner of many awards for his writing and published in many countries, this his latest collection chronicles a journey through time and place that is anything but an apology in any sense. His many insights and eye for observation both actual and abstract are divided into sections of 'The Permanent Way' ending on a piece that is worth the purchase on its own merit. Both memories and reflections are a signpost in any subtlety and the undertones and truths do not go unexamined. Life. The book is published by the Revival Press - Limerick and it retails at €15. Available on line and in all good bookshops.

Launched by Rachel Coventry at the Jonathan Swift Cultural Centre in Trim County Meath on Friday the 15th of March. One for the bookshelves!
